New Site Features

Welcome

We are happy to bring you a completely revamped web site for SLO area climbers. In our opinion, the new site is far superior to the old one. Here's the significant improvements you will notice.

  • Discussion forums! A message board where messages are threaded by topic, instead of one long chronological list as on the old site. You can even read the old Features and comments, finally organized in a sane manner.
  • User Registration. Site visitors must now register before they can post comments or forum topics. Old users are automatically registered. User accounts are password protected so no one accidentally posts as someone else. Guest visitors can browse the site but not contribute.
  • Easy navigation. The layout of the site has been entirely overhauled from ground up. We think the new organization makes it much easier for people to find their way around.
  • Guidebook, the new name for the Route Database, contains all the old climbing areas and routes. Now each area has a link to a Google Map. Route comments can be added to a route and stay with that route. Please post only informative, "beta" comments on a route. Opinions and discussion should be posted in the forums.
  • Rating system. An easy to use "star" system for users to rate routes.
  • Photos are now clearly distinguised as Route photos which get attached to a specific route or Action Photos that appear in the Image galleries.
  • Random Image actually picks a random image (unlike the old site) from the Image Galleries.
  • Who's online shows who is currently visiting the site.
  • Chatbox is a real-time chat page for instant message style communication with other site visitors. Could be handy for finding a climbing partner on short notice.
  • Opinion Polls. Members can create an opinion poll and people can vote.
  • Search the site by keyword. If you remember the route name but can't remember what cliff it's on, try the Search.
  • Climbing news from around the world. We tap into the Google RSS news feed and bring you headlines about climbing news.
  • User profiles. Customize your account to let others know who you are. Be sure to check "Personal contact form" so other climbers can reach you by email. (Your email address will not be revealed).
  • Locally operated by SLO climbers, for SLO climbers. No annoying banner advertisements, we aren't trying to make a profit. Everything is under local control: we own the domain name, we paid for the hosting, and we are using open source software that we can customize in any way we like.
  • ...more to come. We have a few more nifty ideas in the works to keep the site interesting. We hope to provide entertaining and informative features that will keep you coming back.
