Whats Going On?

Welcome

Are these forums/this website ever going to be 'up and running' again? It seems to me that no one really posts or visits here..I think Im pretty much the only one. I bet someone worked hard on this site and it would probably be a useful resource to many climbers if it was active. If any help is needed maintaining it I will gladly lend a hand.

Mission and Goals

Welcome

ClimbingSLO.org intends to be an online resource for the small community of rock climbers in the San Luis Obispo area. We have a specific focus and intend to serve our audience in particular ways.

Most of the visitors to this site live in one geographical area. Many of the contributors know each other personally. Even for those who haven't met, the possibility exists that they MIGHT meet climbing at the local rocks. This is very different than national mega-sites like rockclimbing.com and mountainproject.com where most of the participants will never meet each other and have no common climbing area that they care about.

New Site Features

Welcome

We are happy to bring you a completely revamped web site for SLO area climbers. In our opinion, the new site is far superior to the old one. Here's the significant improvements you will notice.

  • Discussion forums! A message board where messages are threaded by topic, instead of one long chronological list as on the old site. You can even read the old Features and comments, finally organized in a sane manner.
  • User Registration. Site visitors must now register before they can post comments or forum topics. Old users are automatically registered. User accounts are password protected so no one accidentally posts as someone else. Guest visitors can browse the site but not contribute.

Suggested Forum Posting Guidelines

Welcome

Tell us what you think of these proposed guidelines:

The short version:
Be respectful, be tactful, be tolerant.

The long version:
The forum is intended to provide information and to foster discussion and reasoned debate. The community benefits from contributions that move a dialog forward in a spirit of open exchange of ideas. Climber's have diverse and strongly-held opinions; be tactful and treat others with the same respect that you would like to receive.

Text messages are frequently ambiguous and subject to misinterpretation. Give the author the benefit of the doubt instead of assuming he or she is an idiot. A reply which seeks clarification and invites deeper inquiry will be more valuable than one that casts judgement.
